Real Madrid could activate the buy-back clause for Tottenham Hotspur star Sergio Reguilon
According to El Nacional (h/t Express), Carlo Ancelotti could push Spanish giants Real Madrid to activate the buy-back clause for Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon.
The 24-year-old left-back joined Spurs in the summer of 2020 and has since become an integral part of the team. An excellent player on his day, Reguilon looked to have cemented his position in the first team lineup under Nuno Espirito Santo. Reguilon has also become a fan favourite and was recently applauded in his efforts to save the life of a Newcastle United supporter in their Premier League fixture on Sunday.
Reguilon was very much in demand following his exploits in the Europa League in 2019. The buy-back clause was one of the main reasons why Manchester United opted out of a deal for the Spanish wing-back. His clause could come back to haunt the North London club should Los Blancos make any move for Real Madrid academy graduate.
Los Blancos are currently in a state of rebuild and could choose to bring back their former academy ace. At 24, the Spaniard is at the right age to break out and redevelop into a solution on the flank. Fullbacks are a key piece of the modern game and those with the ability of Reguilon don’t come often.
Reguilon has already provided 2 assists in 8 PL appearances this season for Spurs. The defender had a great loan spell with Sevilla FC and was snatched up by the North Londoners for £25million. This clause gives Real the option to re-sign the player for an undisclosed amount until 2022.
The 24-year-old defender has displayed both his attacking and defensive qualities on several occasions. His departure would be a setback to Tottenham who are in the midst of their own rebuild. Loing Reguilon now could lead to yet another position that needs to be filled.
