Former Tottenham Hotspur keeper Brad Friedel believes that Dele Alli can still rediscover his form with the club

In an interview with Sky Sports, former Spurs and USMNT goalkeeper Brad Friedel states that Dele Alli doesn’t have to leave Tottenham Hotspur to regain his stellar form.

The 26-year-old English international has found it difficult to make a substantial impact with the Lilywhites in the last few seasons. He rose to prominence under former manager Mauricio Pochetino. That being said his tepid display against SBV Vitesse highlights the kind of trajectory that he has had in the recent past.

The English international has scored 67 goals and provided 61 assists for 262 matches across all competitions for the Lilywhites. Alli started out as a promising young talent but has failed to maintain that consistency in the last couple of seasons.

Friedel believes that the English midfielder is too talented to let go of and needs a little more time to get going for the North London club once again, where he has the backing of the fans already. The 26-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club but no substantial report has been provided yet.

“I don’t think Dele is the kind of player that needs to move somewhere to be able to resurrect his career.”

Dele has endured a rocky start to the season having scored just 1 goal from 6 Premier League appearances this season. The UEFA Europa Conference League match would have been a great way to get some rhythm going for the player, but he failed to capitalize on the glorious opportunity.

The Lilywhites have a packed schedule lined up in the months to come. Nuno Espirito Santo would be looking to rotate his squad to preserve the fitness of his main squad. This could provide a rosy opportunity for the 26-year-old to prove his worth to the Portuguese manager who himself has endured an indifferent start to life at Tottenham.

The Spurs faithful would be hoping that their mercurial midfielder can find his old form again. It would certainly help alleviate some of the pressure on Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min who have been the focal point of the North London club’s attacking threat this season.
