Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur keeping tabs on West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone
According to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge (h/t Birmingham Live), Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation of West Bromwich Albion star, Sam Johnstone who is tipped to leave the Hawthorns.
Hugo Lloris has been a dependable asset in goal for the Lilwyhites ever since his arrival in North London in 2012. He has played more than 350 games for the North London club across all competitions but at 34, Tottenham should be looking for an heir to his crown.
Pierluigi Gollini is the current second-choice keeper for Spurs. The Italian international is still untested to a certain degree and hasn’t played for the senior squad in the Premier League. He has only made six appearances across all competitions so far with a majority of them in the EFL Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League.
Johnstone has proven his worth in the Championship as well as the Premier League. The Englishman has played 144 matches for the Baggies across all competitions so far. His current contract with the club will expire at the end of the current season. Grabbing a player of his quality for free is a no brainer for Tottenham.
It is believed that West Ham United came close to securing the services of the 28-year-old shot-stopper last summer. However, they failed to match the £20 million valuation set by West Brom. The Throstles have started England’s second-tier football league in great form and are currently 3rd in the Championship table.
Nuno Espirito Santo has had an indifferent start to the season and after two consecutive defeats, the pressure could be mounting on the Portuguese manager. A solid foundation is a prerequisite for any top club and Johnstone could be a great addition to the North London club’s backline.

Any move for the English International is only speculatory at the moment. However, this move could highly benefit the Tottenham faithful who would be hoping for better fortune in the future. The North London outfit have gotten accustomed to false dawns, one too many times.
