Team News: Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo omits Dele Alli and Harry Winks from EFL Cup squad vs Burnley
According to the Evening Standard, Nuno Espirito Santo has chosen to exclude Dele Alli and Harry Winks from his Tottenham Hotspur squad that will take on Burnley in the Carabao Cup fixture, raising doubts and uncertainty over their future at the club.
Dele Alli and Harry Winks have struggled to cement a starting spot in the regular squad for the last couple of seasons. Both these players have been with the North London club for a long time but have somehow found themselves lower in the pecking order most recently.
Alli has played 11 games for the North London club this season across all competitions. He has scored 2 goals and provided 1 assist during that time but a significant amount of his playing minutes have come in the UEFA Europa Conference League and Domestic cup matches.
Harry Winks has made only 6 appearances for Tottenham this campaign out of which only 2 have been in the Premier League. Out of these games he has only managed to notch a solitary assist in the Conference league until now.
Both of these players had a great chance to showcase their skill and talent against the Dutch club SBV Vitesse in their European fixture but failed to make a mark. The Eredivisie side won the match 1-0 courtesy of another disappointing performance from the Lilywhites. Regardless, this EFL Cup match should have been an opportunity for them to get gametime which they currently can’t in the Premier League.
Winks has also expressed his frustration at the lack of game time in the last couple of seasons and hinted at a serious conversation regarding the matter. Both the English international players, who were once booming with potential have seen their footballing career, hit a point of stagnation.
