Liverpool enter the race to sign Chelsea ace and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Antonio Rudiger
According to Eurosport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the pursuit of Chelsea’s star defender Antonio Rudiger.
There is significant speculation surrounding the long-term future of 28-year-old Blues defender Antonio Rudiger. The German defender’s current contract with the West-London club runs out in 2022. The former VfB Stuttgart player has become an instrumental part of this backline under Thomas Tuchel.
He has helped build a solid structure at the back and has been a regular feature under the German manager. It is believed that the 28-year-old defender is demanding a sum that is higher than the £150,000 per week wages that the Blues are willing to offer.
The Merseyside team are the latest entrants and could drum up their interest in Rudiger after the unrest that his contract situation is causing. The Chelsea defender is also being linked to other top PL clubs like Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
The centre-back has made 161 appearances for the Blues across all competitions so far during which period he scored 8 goals and provided 4 assists. The Lilywhites themselves have been brittle at the back on instances. A seasoned campaigner like Rudiger could help bring some composure and anchor the backline with Tottenham.
The German central defender also has substantial experience in Europe’s elite competitions which could help boost morale in the dressing room. In an interview earlier in the year the 28-year-old defender admitted that he was close to joining Tottenham Hotspur under Jose Mourinho but the move did not materialize.

Rudiger could be of substantial use to the Portuguese but any move for the 28-year-old is pure speculation at the moment.
