Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur eyeing a move for 24-year-old Lille right-back Zeki Celik
According to TuttoMercatoWEB (h/t Burnley Express), Tottenham Hotspur could be considering a move for 24-year-old right-back Zeki Celik.
Close to a year ago the Turkish defender claimed that he knew about Spurs’ interest in him. A move never materialised and the North London club went and signed Emerson Royal in their last transfer window. It is now being understood that the Lilywhites could reignite their interest in the 24-year-old wing-back once again.
Celik has played 114 games for the French club across all competitions so far. During that time he scored 5 goals and provided 11 assists for the team. He has become an instrumental part of Les Dogues that won the French League last season. The Spurs team has been in a sort of rebuild and have struggled to maintain consistency.
Matt Doherty is coming to grips after the injury that he picked up with the Republic of Ireland earlier in the month on international duty. This means that the side have had to rely on Emerson Royal who is still adjusting to his new life in England.
The 22-year-old Brazilian had a great game against Burnley and notched an impressive assist to help the North Londoners qualify for the next round. Celik could help provide some backup in that position amidst the current uncertainty in a relatively young backline.

The 24-year-old Turkish defender has also played a lot of top-flight games and that experience may provide to be a crucial factor. Tottenham’s interest in the Ligue 1 defender is only speculatory at the moment. The lack of squad depth has been highlighted in their last losses to SBV Vitesse and West Ham United prior to their victory against Burnley.
The Portuguese manager could thus welcome such a defensive reinforcement in his roster, if Celik was to make his way over to N17.
