Tottenham Hotspur eyeing a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Mauro Icardi
According to Calciomercato (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur could be interested in signing Paris Saint Germain forward Mauro Icardi.
The 28-year-old Argentine star has struggled to cement a regular starting position in the star-studded Ligue 1 team this season. A change of scenery could thus become a very appealing prospect to Icardi. The Lilwyites were linked to the former Inter Milan striker in the last transfer window but nothing came to fruition.
The La Masia product made his name with Inter Milan, where he scored 124 goals and provided 28 assists in 219 matches across all competitions. He spent seven years at the San Siro before moving to Paris where he has notched 36 goals and made 10 assists in 73 games across all competitions.
Despite these stats, Icardi has struggled to get consistent minutes under his belt this season. Spurs star Harry Kane was on the radar of Manchester City but the possibility of this move was blocked by Daniel Levy in the summer. The English striker has been unimpressive ever since the whole saga happened.
The English captain has only scored one goal in eight Premier League matches this season which came against Newcastle United. The 28-year-old English international had scored 33 goals and provided 17 assists in total last season but is finding it tough to replicate that form. The rumour mill and uncertainty can take their toll on the best of players.

Nuno Espirito Santo would be under a lot of pressure due to their inconsistent performances. Their lack of depth in the attack was gravely highlighted as a 17-year-old Dane Scarlett seems like the only proper replacement to Kane that Spurs have at the moment.
With the teenager still having a long way in his development, he is far from an ideal choice to make a difference. Losing Kane will leave Tottenham without a dependable first choice striker to call upon. Any rumour for Icardi is only speculatory at the moment but he would definitely be a sensible acquisition to the team.
