Tottenham Hotspur manager, Nuno Espirito Santo makes sobering admission following a thumping 3-0 loss to Manchester United
In his post-match interview with Sky Sports (h/t Metro), Tottenham Hotspur manager, Nuno Espirito Santo admitted that his team are not on the right track following a harrowing 3-0 loss at home to Manchester United.
Both teams went into the game under pressure, following a number of reversals in recent days. It was however Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s side who seized the initiative and looked likely to win the game.
The premonition came true as Cristiano Ronaldo scored and assisted before Marcus Rashford added the cherry on top. The loss leaves Spurs in the eighth spot and in a proper fight to qualify for Europe for next season.
Notably, Tottenham were booed off by their own fans at both half time and full time. Nuno admits that the club is not on the ‘right track’ and believes the criticism from the fans is justified.
“We are not on the right track. I totally understand the criticism.”
Spurs’ intentions to hit back following last weekend’s loss to West Ham United fell well short of the intended target. Not only were Spurs the second-best team on the night but failed to carve open a Man United defence there for the taking. Nuno may admit that such results are a part of football but more like it and he could find his position under threat.
“It’s part of football. When the team doesn’t perform, the fans suffer. The fans are not happy, they have showed they’re not happy.”
Spurs were desperately poor throughout the match. Nuno was booed when he substituted Lucas Moura in the second half and life is not getting any easier for the Portuguese manager at the Lane.
