Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur to battle Bayern Munich for Nantes star Randal Kolo Muani
According to Foot Mercato (h/t Daily Mail), English Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Nantes forward Randal Kolo Muani. They will however have to battle German champions Bayern Munich who are also in the fray for the 22-year-old.
Muani scored nine league goals for the Ligue 1 side last season and is currently in the final year of his contract. He will be able to speak to foreign clubs once the transfer window opens in January. While his numbers are nothing to rave about, there is potential and Spurs can land him for a free if negotiations go well.
The French international is not expected to renew his contract with Nantes in what could be a godsend for Tottenham. The North Londoners lack a dependable striker to deputize for Harry Kane and this lack of bite up front has put added pressure on Son Heung-min.
Spurs director Fabio Paratici has ‘already met’ with the player’s representatives and it remains to be seen if he has seized the initiative. Other sides namely Borussia Monchengladbach and Southampton are also aware of the striker’s abilities.
Eintracht Frankfurt have put forward an offer of their own but a deal is yet to be agreed upon. This gives Tottenham the time to turn the screw and land the player for themselves. He has so far scored two goals and three assists in 10 games for Nantes this season.
Muani has however made an impression on French legend Thierry Henry who likened the youngster to former Arsenal star Nwankwo Kanu. The Nigerian was a force on his day and Muani turns out half as good, Spurs could have a real player on their hands.
Tottenham are once again on the lookout for fresh attacking options in the upcoming transfer windows. The future of Harry Kane remains uncertain, after being linked to English Champions Manchester City throughout the summer transfer window.

Muani is far from a lethal goalscorer at this moment in time. Tottenham if they come out on top will be landing themselves a prospect rather than a finished product. But then, Muani does offer a better alternative to 17-year-old Dane Scarlett as a backup for Kane.
