Jamie Carragher sends message to Antonio Conte about Tottenham Hotspur job
According to Daily Star, Jamie Carragher has issued a warning to Antonio Conte on accepting the managerial job at Tottenham Hotspur. He is expected to become the new boss at the North London club following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Italian is said to be given an 18-month contract by Daniel Levy and that he will be announced as the new boss today. He was previously the manager of Inter Milan and was a success in his short spell in Italy.
However, Carragher is adamant that the former Chelsea coach will not replicate the success at the Blues and Inter in a short period. He believes that it will be very tough for the Italian to improve Spurs within the contract time.
“I think a manager is going to need more than 18 months to turn Tottenham around and even though I am a huge admirer of Antonio Conte and how quickly… the success he had with Chelsea and every club he has been to… I think it would be very difficult to replicate that success in 18 months.”
The former Liverpool player adds that the current team has regressed from the days of Mauricio Pochettino. He also mentioned how the former Seria A coach would need another 18 months to get Tottenham to where Pochettino took them.
“When I say ’get Tottenham back’, maybe back to where they were under Pochettino, where they felt they had a chance of winning trophies and pushing people for the title, Champions League year in, year out.”

It is reasonable to think that time is warranted for a coach to instil his ideas into the squad. More time would be needed if the said team has been regressing in terms of quality. However, it ultimately depends on how quickly the team and the manager will be able to adapt to each other.
