Pep Guardiola and Cesc Fabregas gives their verdict on the appointment of Antonio Conte as the new Tottenham Hotspur boss
Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League clash with Club Brugge (h/t Evening Standard), Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has welcomed Antonio Conte to the Premier League following the appointment as the Tottenham Hotspur boss.
Guardiola and Conte joined Manchester City and Chelsea, respectively, in 2016 and clashed often in the Premier League. The Italian won the battle in the first year, having won the league, beating the Spaniard twice in the process.
But the former Barcelona boss bounced back the next year, winning the Premier League while doing the double over the former Chelsea manager. Speaking in the presser, he said:
“Welcome back to the Premier League. His career speaks for himself. An outstanding manager who has had success everywhere.”
According to The Express, Cesc Fabregas has reacted to the news by giving credit to Tottenham for pulling off the appointment. Fabregas had previously played under the Spurs coach during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Fabregas spent two seasons under the former Seria A boss, winning the league and a FA Cup. A former Arsenal star, the 34-year-old has set aside the rivalry with the North London club and gave his honest verdict on the news.
“I hate to say it but what an appointment by Spurs.”

The fact that a rival and a former player of Conte have both spoken in the same vein shows the kind of manager the Italian is. While he may not be everyone’s cup of tea, Conte has the ability to make a lasting difference at Tottenham.
