Transfer News: Fabrizio Romano confirms contract agreement between Nicolo Barella and Inter Milan amid Tottenham Hotspur interest

According to The Daily Mail (h/t Football.London), Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella has been a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur following the appointment of Antonio Conte as the new manager.

The 24-year-old was a midfield prowess under Conte during his reign at San Siro. He was key in the Nerazzuri’s journey to winning the Seria A title by dethroning Juventus’ dominance in the league.

However, Tottenham are dealt a major blow as reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Barella will sign an extension with Inter.  He also adds that the new offer is for five years, meaning the Italian club will hold all the cards in case of any potential future negotiations for their prized midfield asset.

The Italian journalist further adds that an announcement can be expected soon, with the midfielder earning around €5m per season. It could put an end to the interest from the North London club as they will be at a disadvantage.

The Italian midfielder has played 87 matches under the Spurs boss and has scored seven goals while providing 21 assists. His time under the former Chelsea boss was key in his development and rise to the national team.

This was further highlighted when the playmaker played a big role in Italy winning the 2020 UEFA Euros. He had a three-goal involvement throughout the competition with two assists and a goal from six matches.

With the Italian international potentially out as an immediate target, the English club would need to look elsewhere if they want to bring in a midfielder. However, it is still early stages, and time will paint the picture on the incomings and outgoings under the new coach.
