Antonio Conte says Tottenham Hotspur need ‘time and ambition’ to win silverware
Speaking in a pre-match press conference (h/t Evening Standard), Antonio Conte has said that Tottenham Hotspur needs time and ambition to become a top club to win silverware. His team will face Everton in the Premier League on Sunday, which will be his first league game as a manager.
Conte managed his first game for Tottenham in the UEFA Europa Conference League as they beat Vitesse Arnhem at home. But it was far from an easy win as his side struggled to get the three points in the bag.
The Italian explained that he understands the circumstances that the club is in and, he also knows the way to get them out of this plight. He adds that trophies do not come overnight and work will need to be done in order to attain them.
“This is a big challenge. And I know very well that this club is not winning for many years. But I think that to win, you have to build to win. Winning doesn’t happen after one, two, three days, or one or two months.”
The Spurs boss also mentioned how they need time to build their project while having a firm idea of their goals. He believes, without time and ambition, the club would not improve at the present nor in the future.
“Now I think that we need time. Time and ambition. Only if you have ambition in football, you can start to build something important for the present, for the future. On the pitch, I think we need to change, need to change many, many things.”

The 52-year-old coach is right about the club needing time and ambition to complement the effort to attain our objectives. It was evident in the previous game when we nearly threw away a 3-0 lead following our early efforts. A change is necessary, but without adequate time and proper planning, it would only be a rushed patchwork.
