Tottenham Hotspur loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers impresses Chris Sutton as Celtic beat Ferencvaros in the Europa League
Speaking in the post-match discussion at BT Sport Studio (h/t Daily Record), Chris Sutton has said that Tottenham Hotspur loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers was impressive as Celtic beat Ferencvaros 3-2 in the Europa League.
The 23-year-old joined the Hoops on deadline day back in summer on a season-long loan deal with the option to stay permanently at Celtic Park. He has played 14 matches so far and has six clean sheets scoring two goals across all competitions.
The Celtic legend was full-on praise for the US international following the victory against Fradi. He admitted that he had his doubts but was delighted to see how the defender performed for his side.
“I’ve got to say, one who’s really impressed me is Carter-Vickers. We saw him have a hopeless game for Spurs in the Conference League and I worried about him, he was a last-minute signing in the window.”
Sutton also mentioned that the centre-back stepped up his game and has been a commanding presence at the back. He added that the loanee is most impressive in his ability to read the play and act accordingly.
“But I do think he’s really stepped up and his leadership skills at the back, the way he’s read the game, he attacks the ball when it goes into the box – he was superb tonight once again.”

With the arrival of Antonio Conte, it increases the possibility that a three-man defensive system would be preferred as the base of the team. Tottenham may feel hard done by their decision to include the buy option as the American continues to impress for his loan club.
