Tottenham Hotspur could be given a financial boost through a proposed TV deal between Premier League and the US
According to The Times (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur could be in line to receive a financial boost thanks to a new TV deal between the Premier League and the United States. A record-breaking deal could be in the making due to high demand and competition for the rights.
The current contract between the Premier League and NBC will expire at the end of the 2021-22 season. Bidding is currently in place for the new rights as interested parties can make their offers until November 8.
It is said that since 2015, the Premier League has had the most lucrative broadcasting deal in the world. With popularity still intact, the upcoming new contract is expected to eclipse that even further. The previous agreement has brought in £4billion between 2019 and the end of this term.
The new contract is said to double the amount of the previous deal with a reported figure of £9billion between the 2022 and the 2025 season. A spokesperson for NBC has told The Times (h/t Football.London):
“We certainly want to continue our great relationship [with the Premier League].”
NBC are expected to receive a portion of the new rights as they are split into four packages. They face competition from ESPN and CBS, who want to take advantage of the growing attraction of the league in the United States.
If agreed, it will give a financial boost to Antonio Conte and his side as they could earn at least £9million each year. It could not have come at a perfect time as Spurs could look to splash some cash to back their new manager.
