Teddy Sheringham believes Tottenham Hotspur have higher standards than Arsenal following Antonio Conte appointment
Speaking to Genting Casino (h/t Football.London), Teddy Sheringham has said that his former club Tottenham Hotspur have a higher ambition than Arsenal following the appointment of Antonio Conte as the new manager.
Sheringham is considered one of the most prolific strikers that the Premier League has seen in its era. He has 113 goals and 35 assists in 264 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions.
The Spurs legend has taken a dig at the Gunners by stating the differences between how things are perceived at both clubs currently. He believes Tottenham have higher standards than their bitter North London rivals, which is evident in the mentality surrounding the two clubs.
“Tottenham are [tenth] in the league and they’re only two points behind Arsenal who are supposedly having a fantastic season at the moment. That’s where the two different standards are at the moment in North London.”
The former England international added that finishing above your rivals would not be the only objective of Spurs since he is sure that Conte will be targeting Champions League places.
“I would think Conte will be looking to get into the Champions League, without a doubt. That’s his desire. Hopefully now we’ve got a winner in charge and that’s where he’s going to take us and get back into the Champions League football.”

The comments from Sheringham is bound to add fuel to the long-standing rivalry between the North London rivals. The appointment of Conte shows the desire and ambition of the club at present and in the future.
However, the difference in sentiment between the two clubs is more due to the current run of form rather than a difference in standards.
