Gareth Southgate on Harry Kane and what Antonio Conte appointment means for the Tottenham Hotspur forward
According to Evening Standard, Gareth Southgate has given his opinion on Harry Kane and how Antonio Conte being the new coach of Tottenham Hotspur will affect the player.
The England manager has backed Conte to help the 28-year-old rediscover his form from last season. One of the world’s most feared strikers, the Spurs ace has been a shadow of his usual self.
While the English captain was not up to his usual standards, he did his best in creating opportunities for his side. He set up an opportunity for Sergio Reguilon in the first half after a brilliant cross found the wing-back at the far post, but the resulting shot just whizzed past the goal.
Southgate believes Kane can now have a fresh start under the new manager. It has been a rather eventful few months for the English skipper and it appears to have affected his game.
“Now there’s a change of manager, I think there’s a fresh start for him. He’s ended up, understandably, with an adverse reaction from some of the fans there. He’s had to deal with a lot of unintentional consequences of the possible move in the summer.”
Southgate went on to add that the failed transfer move to Manchester City in the summer has played a role in Kane’s slump in form. He adds that the Italian manager can snap the striker out of this predicament in no time.
“Antonio coming in is probably a good thing from Harry’s personal point of view. Knowing Antonio as I do, an outstanding coach and a very good man, I’m sure he’ll get a response and a reaction out of Harry very quickly.”

The Spurs forward is crucial for his club and country, and finding his form is necessary for success at both levels. Whether the former Inter Milan boss will be able to replicate the Diego Costa-Eden Hazard connection he had at Chelsea remains to be seen.
Both Tottenham and England supporters will hope that that is the case and Kane can rediscover his touch as quickly as possible.
