Tottenham Hotspur Stadium approved to receive a license for safe standing
According to Tottenham Hotspur official website, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will receive a license for safe standing as they become one of the very first clubs to benefit from this decision.
Tottenham joins Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United as the first clubs to receive the license in the Premier League. Supporters will be allowed to stand in seated areas from 1 January 2022, following the announcement from the Sports Minister, Nigel Huddleston, today.
It will give the fans the freedom to stand in certain sections as per safety guidelines. The stadium will also be subjected to research for the rest of this season to study the effects for a wider rollout in the future.
The South Stand and the away supporters section was future-proofed for safe standing when the stadium was initially inaugurated. Other areas of the stadium, however, will be subjected to the same rules as per the Government’s all-seater policy.
The introduction of the licensed standing areas was approved after a long-standing gap of thirty years, and Spurs will be one of the first clubs to pioneer the change. This was after a study was conducted in the 2019-20 season about the possibility of granting such licenses.
Speaking on the issue, the club Chairman, Daniel Levy, has said that:
“The Club has led on lobbying the Government for safe standing at stadia and is delighted that this will now be possible. It delivers choice for fans attending the game – whether home or away supporters – and the vast majority of our fans are in favour of this scheme. “

The North London club were only able to receive the license after they met the criteria required for the approval. It will add to the other facilities that the club have introduced to raise its standards.
Now all that is left is the on-the-field success to complement what is happening off-the-pitch.
