Sunderland forward Jack Clarke reflects on his "difficult" spell at Tottenham Hotspur.

Derby County interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur youngster Jack Clarke on loan

According to Derbyshire Live, Derby County are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur starlet Jack Clarke on loan.

The 20-year-old made the switch to the Lilywhites in 2019 for a sum of £10m from Leeds United. There was a lot of excitement ahead of his transfer but Clarke has failed to live up to his potential until this point.

The youngster was then sent on loan spells at Queens Park Rangers and his former club Leeds United but struggled to maintain his form and break into the first team. The Englishman has played 24 matches for the Spurs U-23 team and only clocked 95 minutes to date for the senior squad across all competitions till now.

It is believed that a host of other Championship teams apart from Derby County such as Barnsley, Luton Town, and Millwall are also interested in securing a loan spell for the 20-year-old.

Clarke still has a long way to go and was sent on another loan spell to Stoke City last season. He made 14 appearances for the Potters during that time. He has also been a substantial feature in the Premier League 2.

Loan spells are a great way to develop players especially in bigger clubs like Tottenham Hotspur so that they can get quality game time under their belt and fine-tune their technical abilities.

Antonio Conte is a world-class manager who has helped develop players in all the teams that he has managed. That being said, it would need something really special for a youngster like Clarke to break into the Spur’s first team at the moment. With forwards like Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, and Son Heung-Min at their disposal, it is easier said than done.

Derby have been struggling to their head above water and are currently situated at the bottom of the Championship table. Wayne Rooney could use all the help he can get at the moment. The Rams manager was also hopeful that the club’s transfer ban would be lifted before the January transfer window opens.
