Tottenham Hotspur handed a fresh advantage in their pursuit of West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone
According to Daily Mail (h/t Hampshire Live), Tottenham Hotspur could be given a fresh boost in their pursuit of West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone. It is believed that the Baggies have resigned to the fact that the 28-year-old keeper will be leaving the Championship club.
Apart from the Lilywhites, the English professional footballer has also been linked with Southampton and West Ham United. Despite getting relegated from the Premier League last season, Johnstone has been a solid presence at the back for the Baggies.
Hugo Lloris is the current No 1 at Tottenham Hotspur stadium but his contract with the club is up next summer. The French international is 34-years-old today and the club will need to bring in younger alternatives to replace him in goal.
The former Manchester United academy graduate could be a perfect fit for the North London club. He has played 147 games for the Throstles and has been a dependable asset throughout. His experience in the Premier League could also be an added advantage as it would help him adapt better to the surroundings.
Johnstone would also get the chance to compete at a higher level regularly and develop his game under a renowned coach like Antonio Conte. The North Londoners do have Pierluigi Gollini as a backup keeper but the Italian is yet to be properly integrated into the first-team squad.
The Lilywhites would be looking to make a decision sooner rather than later and the 28-year-old English international would be a perfect choice. It is also being realized that the Baggies have now become resigned to the fact that the English professional goalkeeper would be leaving. Johnstone’s current contract with West Brom is set to expire next summer.
