Transfer News: Juventus change stance on Weston McKennie amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur
According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness (h/t Football.London), Juventus have changed their decision on the future of Weston McKennie amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
The 23-year-old left FC Schalke 04 for Juve on a loan deal, which was made a permanent transfer, after €18.5 million was paid to activate the buy option. He has impressed under the Bianconeri shirt and has quickly become a key player in the squad.
Having impressed in his first season, there were high expectations from the supporters to build on those early displays. However, McKennie has had a slow start to the current campaign and is yet to show the level of performance from the last term.
Antonio Conte eyed the US international to raise the level of the squad in midfield, and as a result, he has been linked to Spurs for quite some time. The Italian club was initially interested in listening to offers for their midfield star.
However, it is said that they have changed their stance and has decided to bank on the midfielder’s quality for their future needs. Tottenham could be dealt a blow since it would be difficult to negotiate for his services.
The North London club will still be boosted by the €210m losses that the Seria A club incurred in the 2020-21 season. This means that they may have to find sources of money to not record losses for the second year in a row.

The arrival of Conte could mean that Daniel Levy has had a change in ambitions and are looking to challenge the top clubs. To achieve that, backing the manager in transfers is important.
Whether that means McKennie is one of the new faces at N17 in the future remains to be seen, but the young midfielder is surely a signing that not many Spurs fans would be opposed to.
