Glenn Hoddle believes that Antonio Conte is the best man to lead Tottenham Hotspur in a new direction

In conversation with PA news agency (h/t The Independent), Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle has backed Antonio Conte to do a good job with Spurs.

The former English professional footballer went on to have a great career with the North London club. He spent 12 years as a player with the Lilywhites and then returned to don the cap of a manager in 2001.

The return may not have been as rosy as he expected and Hoddle was left frustrated with the lack of backing at times. He would therefore have a better understanding of what goes on behind the curtains at Spurs.

With all of his experiences in mind, the 64-year-old believes that Conte can do a great job with the London-based club. The former Tottenham Hotspur is optimistic of the former Inter Milan manager making his way to N-17 at the moment:

Hoddle spoke about his views on the Italian manager. He also suggested that Conte would need financial backing if things don’t run smoothly with the current crop of players:

“I think there’s a lot of positives here. He is somebody that knows what he wants from a team. He will demand that and he will demand money if it’s not working his way. I think they’re in a really strong position if Daniel knows the circumstances and Conte says, ‘Look, if it doesn’t work out with certain players, they’ve got to go. I’ll rebuild. And I’ve done it with other clubs and have been successful’.

Spurs have had to face some transitory issues with respect to their managers in the last couple of seasons. The club let go of Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo in the last two seasons with Ryan Mason being the interim head coach for a while.

It seems as though the club has lacked a sense of stability in recent times and Conte may have the tough task of steering the ship in the right direction again. The Italian manager could be given a boost by the great form displayed by their star striker Harry Kane for the Englsih national squad recently.

Despite having a great time with the Three Lions, the 28-year-old has struggled to make an impact with the Lilywhites in the Premier League this season. Conte would be hoping to work his magic on the squad and help them compete at a higher level consistently. It won’t be such an easy task though as highlighted by Glenn Hoddle.
