Antonio Conte explains that Tanguy Ndombele needs to work much more than other Tottenham Hotspur players

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte explained that Tanguy Ndombele needs to work hard for the team than play for himself.

The French midfielder is yet to kickstart his career in North London since moving for a mammoth £63million fee. He was in-and-out of the starting line-up under Jose Mourinho and did not feature for nearly a month under Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, he could not hit his stride under the ex-manager. Antonio Conte was hired this month, and he has used the midfielder as a substitute in both games. He was afforded 22 minutes against Vitesse but only 5 against Everton.

The Italian boss has now explained that Ndombele needs to work more than others and needs to play for the team than himself.

‘I have seen many managers struggle with his position. He has the quality. He has to understand it is a team, and he has to play into the team.

‘We are working very hard. He has to work much more than the others. He has talent but he has to put it into the team for the team, not for the single-player. Every single player has to know what he has to do. If every player just runs around the pitch, it will be a mess.’

Spurs are set to face Leeds United on Sunday, with Conte looking for his first league victory. The 52-year-old cannot make any additions until January, and till then, he needs his best players to step up. Ndombele certainly has the quality but needs to apply himself better.

The former Inter Milan boss certainly takes no prisoners and would demand 100% from every player. He is there to win trophies, not to massage the ego of players that do not want to work hard. The French international has been linked with an exit, but his main focus should be in London and earning a spot under the 2017 Premier League winning manager.
