Newcastle United to raid Tottenham Hotspur for Harry Winks in the January transfer window
According to Daily Mail Online, Newcastle United are plotting to raid Tottenham Hotspur to sign Harry Winks in the January transfer window. The interest is following the appointment of Eddie Howe as the new manager.
Winks have been on the frustrating end of his career in recent times, having been overlooked by Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo. He was brought into the mix by Mauricio Pochettino and had enjoyed some success under the Argentinian.
With the arrival of Antonio Conte, it would be a fresh start for him, and a revival could be in contention for him. However, with the winter transfer window drawing close, he could still leave due to the competition in midfield.
Newcastle have identified the 25-year-old as their primary target in January as they look to back their new manager. Howe wants to instil some creativity in midfield and is looking at options with Premier League experience.
The Englishman was previously a target for the Magpies in the summer but failed to finalise a deal due to the lack of outgoings. He was also a subject of interest for Everton, Aston Villa and Brighton back in the summer.
The Toons are also eyeing Weston McKennie of Juventus, who is also a transfer target for Spurs. Juventus are open to letting him leave on an initial loan deal which, could lead to a transfer race between the two English clubs.
The coming fixtures could be crucial to determine the future of the midfielder. Should the current plight continue and minutes prove scarce, we could see him leave in the coming window.
