Transfer News: Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is eyeing a free transfer deal for Jesse Lingard
According to ESPN (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is interested in luring a frustrated Jesse Lingard for free from Manchester United.
Jesse Lingard rejuvenated his form after making a loan move to West Ham in the early half of 2021. He bagged nine goals and five assists in 16 games for the Hammers and showed real menace in his performance.
After the end of his loan move, he returned to Old Trafford in the summer. It seems he impressed the Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær who stated that the 28-year-old midfielder would have a vital role to play in this season.
However, he hasn’t given much importance to his previous comment as the Norwegian has often overlooked the English midfielder when deciding the starting lineups. As a result, Lingard has only played 63 minutes of Premier League football this season.
In those 63 minutes, the Manchester United academy graduate has shown why he deserves minutes under the Norweigian manager. The midfielder scored two goals which put his goal per minute at 32 minutes.
Despite such strong claims, the manager has continuously neglected him, which has infuriated him recently. It seems he has already dropped the idea of renewal and would look to exit Old Trafford in the coming transfer window after his contract term ends.
It seems that Spurs, Newcastle United and Everton are all interested in luring the midfielder. But Tottenham is believed to be leading the race to sign the Warrington native.

Spurs could have the upper hand in the negotiation table for the midfielder as the North London team could offer him exactly what he seeks – playing time. With Dele Alli’s drop in recent form, the United man could become a viable alternative in that position.
