Newcastle United to outbid Tottenham Hotspur for Jesse Lingard of Manchester United
According to The Northern Echo, Tottenham Hotspur will face a transfer blow as Newcastle United wants to outbid them for the services of Manchester United star Jesse Lingard. The new ownership team at Newcastle is eager to turn things around and could pose a threat with their huge monetary backing.
Lingard is in the final year of his contract and will become a free agent at the end of the 2021-22 season. He can also legally reach a pre-contract agreement with other clubs in January due to the contract situation.
Last week, there were hints that the 28-year-old has decided to call it a day for his career at Old Trafford. Contract negotiations between his representatives and the Manchester club collapsed over an extension, and he had reposted a post from West Ham United.
He was frustrated due to the lack of minutes he was getting under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but, with the recent sacking, things could improve in the future. The England international also has interest from West Ham, where he was on loan last season.
The winger had enjoyed a great spell under David Moyes and was hoping to use that form to gain favour under Solskjaer. He had received minutes in the early stages and had impressed but was taken out of the team eventually.
The Magpies want to uplift their squad following the takeover and are eyeing players with Premier League experience. The Englishman has been shortlisted as one of the targets, and Spurs would face tough competition for his signature.

Tottenham have been struggling in front of goal this season, and the attackers have had a tough time getting on the scoresheet. The addition of the Red Devils star would add competition and depth to the squad, which would help the team in challenging for the top four places.
The English forward could force others in the squad to raise their level to not get sidelined due to poor performance. However, it remains to be seen whether the Glazers would be open to selling him to a direct rival and increasing their chances of getting into the top four.
