Tottenham Hotspur could benefit from Inter Milan’s stance on Stefan De Vrij
According to Calciomercato via The Spurs Web (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur could benefit from Inter Milan’s stance on Dutch international Stefan De Vrij. They have been linked to the centre-back following the arrival of Antonio Conte.
Spurs are leading the race for the services of the 29-year-old and could be delighted by the development. Inter could decide to not renew the contract of the defender as they look at life after him.
Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni are masters of their trade and, it is understandable why the Italian club could decide to look at them to build their future around. While one may feel that De Vrij is in the latter stages of his career, his quality is not questionable.
This is further highlighted when he plays for the national team alongside Virgil van Dijk. He has displaced the talented centre-back Matthijs de Ligt from the lineup and has been preferred by Louis van Gaal.
The Dutchman was rock solid under Conte when he was the manager of the Nerazzurri and played 88 matches across all competitions. He also scored and assisted five times each and has racked up just 11 yellow cards under the Spurs boss.
Should he move to London, he could instantly get into the Tottenham boss’ system since he is already used to it.

The Inter ace, when paired with Cristian Romero, could make a great defence and could lay down the foundations of future success. Davinson Sanchez has not been able to get into the team, which could paint a picture of his future under the former Chelsea coach.
And as the saying goes, “attack wins you games, but defence wins you titles” could perfectly apply in the situation.
