Tottenham Hotspur loanee J’Neil Bennett returns from Crewe Alexandra due to injury
According to the official website of Crewe Alexandra, Tottenham Hotspur loanee J’Neil Bennett has prematurely returned from his loan spell having suffered an injury. Both clubs have agreed to cut short the loan deal as a result of this setback.
Bennett has suffered an ankle injury and has subsequently returned to Spurs to begin his recovery. His expected recovery date is outside of the loan period, and both clubs have decided to terminate the loan transfer for that reason.
The 19-year-old will undergo rehabilitation for the ligament damage he picked up during a training session. He is likely to be out for 10-12 weeks which would be a big blow as he would have got valuable minutes that assist in his development.
He would have been at his loan club until January had he not suffered the unfortunate injury. He had featured in 11 matches this season and have a goal and assist each to his name. David Artell, manager of the Championship club, expressed his disappointment surrounding this setback.
“J’Neil unfortunately suffered an ankle ligament injury in training and he will be out for a medium term and that will go beyond his current loan deal. We have spoken to J’Neil and Tottenham and it was agreed that he would return there to do his rehab.”
“He is a good young player and good to work with and it’s a blow for us and a blow for him. It is something we could revisit in the future, we are looking at a lot of things for January and if not then with him then he is out of contract in the summer.”
Being out on the sidelines for more than two months would be hard for the youngster, who would need adequate support from the club. We should not ignore the mental effect of such an injury, as he could be adversely affected if proper care is not available.
There have been worse injuries in football and hopefully, the youngster makes his comeback soon. Two months is a long period in the early stages and, missing the action would halt his development. It is also good to see how Artell is open to revisiting the situation in the winter transfer window, which shows the impression he has left on the coach.

It would be beneficial for him if he recovers in time so that he can head out on a temporary spell again. It is important for a youngster to get minutes early on in their careers so they can develop to their full potential as early as possible.
And if he stays beyond the winter transfer window, he could perhaps find a place in the U23s again. Wayne Burnett’s side could us a left-winger and Bennett has played 34 times for them before.
