Transfer New: Everton interested in selling Jordan Pickford amid Tottenham interest
According to The Sun, Everton manager Rafa Benitez is keen on selling England’s first-choice goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who has recently attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Jordan Pickford’s performances have dropped recently. The English international has been shaky in front of the goal and conceded several times. The current season hasn’t been easy for Everton, and the 27-year-old shot stopper’s performance hasn’t helped either. He has conceded 21 goals in 13 games and only kept a clean sheet in 3 games so far this season.
It is believed that The Toffees’ financial situation ahead of the transfer window isn’t favourable for Rafa Benitez, who would need some reinforcements to add depth to his squad. The Merseyside-based team isn’t opposed to selling Pickford in such a situation as a means of raising fund, but apparently intend to acquire £30million out of any deal involving the keeper.
Tottenham have been linked with Pickford in recent times. However, the valuation could become a barrier for them.
Spurs captain Hugo Lloris has been a solid shot-stopper for years. However, there isn’t much backup for him in the current team if Pierluigi Gollini returns to Atalanta this summer. The Frenchman has featured in every Premier League game this season but he is in the last year of his contract and at 34, he is not getting any younger.
We had good backup options in Joe Hart and Paulo Gazzaniga in the past year or so, but the duo is now plying their trade elsewhere. There’s also Brandon Austin in our current team, but his lack of experience makes him an unlikely replacement for Lloris in the short term.

In such a situation, Pickford could become a strong option for us. The English player’s top-flight experience makes him a top shot-stopper contender for any team. At 27, he is in the prime years of his career. If Lloris is to leave in the near future, not many fans would be against getting in Everton’s star man as his potential replacement.
