Transfer News: Joe Rodon is keen on leaving Tottenham Hotspur in January
According to Football Insider (h/t ESPN), Joe Rodon is looking to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window thanks to the lack of game time under current manager Antonio Conte.
The Welsh international joined the club from Swansea City in 2020 but has featured in just 20 games since. Six of them have come this season, four of which were in the UEFA Conference League. It is fair to say that Rodon’s move to the Lane has not gone as planned.
The arrival of Antonio Conte has done little to change the scenario for Rodon. Under the Italian, the 24-year-old defender has only seen 54 minutes of game time. The former Swansea player has also done himself little favours by struggling against NS Mura in the Conference League game. He was subbed off after 54 minutes as Spurs lost 2-1 on the night.
The Welsh player’s lack of good performances could signify his decreasing game time. It is believed that Rodon has decided to leave the club in January and is opting for a loan or permanent move elsewhere. The centre-back could look to rejuvenate his career away from the North London club.
Conte favours a 3-4-3, which he swiftly implemented at Tottenham after his arrival. The tactical change has seen Ben Davies getting more chances. The Welsh defender has formed the three men defensive line in partnership with Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier.
Currently, the system is working well; however, the former Chelsea manager is short of quality players in the squad. An injury to any of his key players could prove to be unsettling for the team’s overall performance.

Thus, before allowing Joe to join a rival team, the Spurs board should look for alternatives in the market. The arrival of reinforcements would strengthen the squad and make up for the loss of the defender.
As things stand, there is no guarantee that Rodon has a future at the club. If that is the case, a parting of the ways would be the best solution for all parties.
