Transfer News: Real Madrid star Gareth Bale could return to Tottenham Hotspur

According to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur (h/t ESPN), Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale could return to Tottenham Hotspur in the coming transfer windows. He has not had a good time at Santiago Bernabeu and could be in line to look for a move elsewhere.

Bale has featured in three games this season and scored just one goal in the minutes he has played. He has suffered from injuries and has been on the sidelines since August. He initially picked up a hamstring injury followed by a calf problem, and that has seen him miss every game for Real bar the first three games of their season.

The Welsh international will become a free agent at the end of the season if an extension is not signed between him and his club. Tottenham are ready to bring him back to N17 if Antonio Conte gives his approval for the signing.

The 32-year-old was on loan at the North London club and had a mixed campaign throughout the season. He did take some time to get going, but overall he had a decent time returning to his former club.

The forward played 35 matches and scored 16 goals alongside four assists across all competitions last term. The Los Blancos winger could be a fine addition if injuries do not intervene as it has currently.

Should we or not?

Those who followed the attacker since his €100million move to the Spanish capital would know that fitness issues have often plagued him in Spain. That was also the case last season at Spurs, where he was unavailable for some games. Any transfer for his services would have to be carefully constructed to reduce the risks as much as possible.

Looking at the advantages, he would add to the squad depth, which we have lacked at times and have got caught out because of it. That was the case against NS Mura in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

He could play as a winger or even as a wingback for the Italian in a similar way to what Ivan Perisic did at Inter Milan. The Wales international started his career as a fullback which would help him adjust to the wingback role.

For that to happen, he would first have to join us and, Daniel Levy would need to reduce the expense involved as much as possible. That should be the case as we have to safeguard against the possibility of him getting affected by injuries.
