Hugo Lloris has opened renewal talks with Tottenham Hotspur
According to Football Insider (h/t ESPN), Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris wants to stay at the club and has opened discussions regarding a new contract.
Hugo Lloris has been a loyal servant at Tottenham for many years. The French shot-stopper has been attached to our success in the last decade. It hasn’t been easy for him this season, especially under Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign, but he has still managed to keep six clean sheets in 17 appearances in the Premier League.
The France international goalkeeper’s current contract will end in the summer of 2022. However, failure to sign a renewal deal has attracted some speculation over his Spurs future. But it seems like the French captain wants to continue his partnership with the North London club.
It is believed that the 34-year-old veteran goalkeeper ‘feels settled’ at Tottenham, and in an attempt to broaden his stay, he has opened contract renewal talks with the Spurs board.
Lloris certainly holds vast Premier League experience. In his tenure with the London-based team, he has seen many ups and downs. The veteran goalkeeper captained Tottenham into their Champions League final clash against Liverpool in 2020.
New manager Antonio Conte also has put his trust in the veteran goalkeeper despite the presence of a young, talented Pierluigi Gollini.
Goalkeepers naturally have a longer shelf-life than outfield players and Lloris’ performances show that he isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. But keeping his age in mind, extending his stay for a short period of time could be a suitable option.

Until then, it is imperative that we find a man to replace him. Gollini came from Atalanta this summer, but it was a loan deal. A permanent solution should be looked at and only then should we even think about letting a modern Spurs legend such as Lloris leave N17.
