Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte sheds light on ‘strange’ Harry Kane form
According to the Evening Standard, Antonio Conte has suggested that the current form showcased by Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane is unusual given his stature and consistency over the years.
Harry Kane has been one of the top strikers in the Premier League for several seasons now. He scored 18 and 23 goals in the last two seasons, respectively, for Spurs. The 28-year-old forward even earned the Golden Boot award last season, beating the likes of Mohamed Salah and Bruno Fernandes. Kane has had had a massive impact on the North London team’s success in recent years.
However, his goal-scoring stats have taken a hit in the current season. The Three Lions captain has only managed to net one goal in 13 English top-flight appearances this season. Looking at all his achievements, past performances and consistency over the years, this season’s display has been disappointing.
Even the new manager Antonio Conte who has given some wonderful praises for the star striker, thinks that Kane’s goal drought is pretty unusual.
“It’s very strange, no? It’s very strange.”
The former Inter Milan manager also admitted that he has seen such anomalies from other top strikers also and it didn’t harm his perception of the players’ quality.
“If you compare what he did in the past, this is very strange. But also in the past, in my experience, before as a player and then as a coach, it happens. I played with important strikers who, for a long period, didn’t score.”
Kane’s goal-laden season has helped Tottenham achieve many milestones and several wins in the Premier League. This season, the England star’s drop in performance can be considered a reason for Spurs’ dismal start of the season.
The arrival of Conte has shaken things up at Tottenham and provided some excellent results in recent times. The Italian manager is yet to lose a Premier League game with the North London team in his four-match tenure.
