Some fans react on Twitter as Tottenham Hotspur convincingly defeat Crystal Palace at home
It was business as usual for Antonio Conte and co, as Tottenham Hotspur defeated Crystal Palace 3-0.
The Italian manager made five changes to the side that drew 2-2 against Liverpool last weekend. Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, and Dele Alli had a good game against the Reds, but the trio had to settle for a place on the bench as Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, and Oliver Skipp took hold of the midfield. Sergio Reguilon and Lucas Moura also returned to the starting line-up while Japhet Tanganga replaced Ben Davies.
The changes made sense from the get-go as Moura took the game to the South London club. However, they could not create a clear-cut chance in the opening half an hour. But as the clock ticked past 30 minutes, Moura was put through by Emerson Royal and the winger showed his pace before squaring the ball to Harry Kane, who scored for the second consecutive league game.
But it was not long before they would double their lead. Two minutes after Kane netted the opener, Emerson Royal bombed ahead and found his national teammate, Moura, who leapt in front of Joachim Anderson to score Spurs’ first headed goal of the campaign.
Top 4 contenders?
Two goals to the good, and we were coasting towards an easy win. It was an awful half for Palace, but it was about to get worse. Wilfried Zaha, who already received a yellow card for catching Davinson Sanchez, fouled the Colombian again in a rash manner. Thus, it was no surprise that Jonathan Moss sent the Ivorian international for an early shower.
The general atmosphere was one of excitement around the N17 as the supporters expected more goals in the second half. However, the Eagles became far more rigid and organised. Conte also took Kane off after an hour’s play to reserve his star’s energy for the game against Southampton on Tuesday.
But after two of the front three found the back of the net, it was time for Son Heung-min to get in on the action. The South Korean made a bursting run into the box 15 minutes from time, and Moura landed his 2nd assist on the day with a sizzling cross as the Asian superstar just glanced the ball past a helpless Jack Butland.
The defence saw out the rest of the game, with Bryan Gil also pulling off a cameo in the dying embers of the match. It was a massive result, which now sees us just six points off 4th placed Arsenal, albeit we have three games in hand.
We now look at how some fans reacted on Twitter to our side’s joyous performance on the night.
