Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte praises the Brazilian connection between Emerson Royal and Lucas Moura
Speaking in his post-match press conference, as quoted by football.london, Antonio Conte lauded Tottenham Hotspur duo Emerson Royal and Lucas Moura for their good connection on the right-wing in the victory against Crystal Palace.
The Eagles may have defeated us 3-0 at Selhurst Park in September, but our boys avenged that defeat tonight. Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, and Son Heung-min put a lacklustre Palace side to bed at the N17.
However, two players that had good games after quite a while were Moura and Emerson Royal. The Brazilian pair were not gelling with each other under Nuno Espirito Santo but showed shades of their wonderful connection against the South London club. Royal put Moura on the run for the first goal, which the winger squared to Kane.
The second goal saw the full-back launch a ball into the box to find his national teammate, who jumped above the burly Palace defenders to double the lead in quick succession. Conte praised the duo’s connection after the game.
“We are talking about two Brazilian players, and being of the same nationality could help. They had a good link and connection. Emerson has big space for improvement. He is very young and has to continue to work. On his side to have Moura and this connection could be good for the whole team.”
Good progress all round
Conte has not lost a single league game since he arrived at the North London club in November. He is slowly starting to get the best out of the squad that was formed by the tactful Fabio Paratici last summer.
Harry Winks is also looking the real deal again, as are Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele, although the trio were benched tonight. The defence looks solid again, but Conte deserves praise for churning out performances from Royal and Moura.
The Brazilian duo have been largely anonymous this season, contributing very little under Nuno. But they seem to be enjoying the connection on the right-hand side with the full-back flourishing with a lot of space to cross the ball. Moura’s burst of pace and chance creation has also gone up a notch since the arrival of Conte.
