Real Madrid to entertain offers for Gareth Bale in January transfer window as Tottenham Hotspur eye a return

According to the Spanish news outlet Marca (h/t The Express), Real Madrid are ready to listen to offers for Gareth Bale in the January transfer window as Tottenham Hotspur eye a potential return. He has fallen out of favour with Carlo Ancelotti and has seen his minutes close to being non-existent.

Tottenham have shown the most interest in signing the Welshman and are leading the race as a result. However, the wage he currently earns would pose a stumbling block for a potential transfer and would need to be adjusted accordingly.

The La Liga forward will see his current contract expire at the end of the 2021-22 season. That has prompted Los Blancos to listen to incoming offers for him in January. He would be available for a cut-price deal for that reason, and Spurs could try their hand next month.

Could this happen?

Bale had enjoyed a great spell at N17 the last term when he was on a season-long loan deal. He could replicate that and even better it this time around in a team that is arguably better now. However, for it to happen, a move would have to materialise as the winter transfer window draws close.

The 32-year-old would give Antonio Conte multiple options in terms of the position he can play in. He can play as a wing-back or a winger on both sides of the pitch, which is always a valuable asset to have in our team. He could also form a pair alongside a striker like Harry Kane and play off of him in a two-man attacking lineup.

The season is long, and we are lacking in the forward department and could use some reinforcements next month. Not to mention, the postponed fixtures will add to the already congested schedule, which further calls for a signing.

The Real Madrid ace has his issues as there is the question of his fitness as he has had injury struggles, especially since his move to the Spanish capital. But signing the 32-year-old may come with the acceptance of the fact that he isn’t the old Gareth Bale anymore who would be the first name on our team sheet.

As mentioned above, the wage package would have to be carefully studied after assessing the risks involved in a transfer. Time will tell what lies in store for the Wales international as the transfer window draws close with each passing day.
