Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur handed a massive boost in their pursuit of Antonio Rudiger
According to Marca (h/t Daily Express), Real Madrid have dropped their interest in signing Antonio Rudiger, handing Tottenham Hotspur a boost in their efforts to sign the Chelsea star.
Antonio Rudiger is one of the biggest stars in the Premier League and has managed to put up consistent performances. The former Roma man helped Chelsea secure important points in challenging situations. Furthermore, the 28-year-old has bagged two goals and four assists in 26 appearances across all competitions.
Manchester United and Tottenham have both been linked with Rudiger. However, Real Madrid have been the leading horse in the race for a long time. But the Los Blancos could be disheartened by the German player’s demands as it is believed that Carlo Ancelotti’s side have ‘parked’ their pursuit to sign the Chelsea star.
It is believed that the Chelsea star has made a wage demand of over £200,000-a-week. Real Madrid’s centre back pairing of David Alaba and Eder Militao has worked well together. Therefore, the Spanish team is not convinced to splash such a significant amount on a defensive reinforcement.
Rudiger has developed himself into one of the best centre backs in the world under Thomas Tuchel. Even though it’s understandable that enormous demands are natural from such a big star, his recent demand could do him more harm than good.
Antonio Conte has mostly favoured a 3-4-3 formation with three centre-back pairing in the backline. However, his options are limited at Spurs. Eric Dier and Davinson Sánchez have been the regular pairing. However, with Cristian Romero’s injury, the Italian manager has been pushed to use left-back Ben Davies in the backline.
Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon have failed to put up convincing performances. Therefore it is evident that Antonio Conte requires fresh centre back reinforcements to make his system work.
Real Madrid’s current stance is a significant advantage to Antonio Conte’s side. Antonio Rudiger would be a massive success if the Spurs board manages to sign him.

However, the Chelsea star doesn’t seem reasonable when it comes to the numbers involved. Even though the centre-half would be eligible to come for free, his wages would take a massive cut of Spurs budget.
