Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur make contract offer to AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie
According to transfer reporter Fabio Gatto (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur have made a contract offer to AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie and are leading the transfer race to sign him at the moment. He looks likely to leave the Italian club due to his current contract situation.
Kessie has entered the final six months of his contract and will become a free agent at the end of this season. He had already rejected a new deal worth £5.4million per year from Milan as they did not meet his salary demands of (€9m) £7.5million per annum.
The 25-year-old can speak with foreign clubs and reach a pre-contract agreement over the winter transfer window. And Tottenham have offered him a four-year deal to make their case to sign him in the future. They have also agreed to pay €8million a year which is a bit less than the player’s demands. Liverpool are also in the mix and would pose a threat to Spurs and their chances of signing him.
Seize the initiative!
The Ivory Coast international could be the first major signing that we make under the tenure of Antonio Conte. Ideally, we would like him to join us this month to boost our chances of a top-four finish in the Premier League. However, the prospect of signing him on a free would be better as we have enough midfielders to make it through the season.
The four-year contract that we offered would make sure that the Serie A midfielder has a long term future at the North London club. Whether he would accept the lower wage package remains to be seen in the coming days. But we have the upper hand, for now, so we should use that advantage to the fullest and put the matter to bed, not to give others a chance to try their cars.
The Ivorian continues to play a major role at San Siro even if he has not agreed to sign a new contract. That shows how they cannot afford to lose his quality and sideline him for the rest of this season. Even if we pushed for a January transfer, it could be tough considering how the Milan club are challenging for the league title.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has produced consistent performances since he joined us from Southampton. However, he has had a difficult run of games recently, which explains one of the reasons why we need to have a good depth in our team.
Having the Serie A star in our team would ensure that we have adequate cover in the squad to deal with such cases when a player is out of form. It remains to be seen whether he would accept our offer in the coming days but, we would hope that is the case.
