Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur Director Fabio Paratici in constant contact with Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger
According to Football Insider (h/t Football.London), Fabio Paratici, the Managing Director of Football at Tottenham Hotspur, is in constant contact with Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger and his representatives in hopes of a potential transfer move.
Rudiger will see his current contract with the Blues expire at the end of this campaign. He can reach a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs, with many teams trying to get his services. Despite Spurs offering no European football this season on top of being a direct rival of Chelsea, Paratici is keeping tabs on how the situation is regularly developing.
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are interested in getting the German’s signature in the future. Spurs will face a stern challenge in trying to facilitate a potential transfer, so it would be a huge statement if they pull this off.
Too early to be excited
We cannot start celebrating just yet because of this update, as there is still a long way to go before we can say for sure that we have a genuine chance of getting the 28-year-old. But it is good to know that the club is trying their best to sign him in the future.
Any transfer to a direct rival is always difficult to be finalised and this London rivalry doesn’t help our chances. Not to mention, there is severe competition in the market for the ex-AS Roma ace right now.
But as difficult as it sounds, we cannot completely rule out a transfer unless we get a reliable confirmation from the player or the concerned clubs. Stranger things have happened in football, after all.
Keeping continuous contact with the defender’s representatives would keep us updated on his condition at Chelsea and could help us to act quickly if an opportunity arises.
Rudiger would be setting a big precedent if the move goes through. Not many players have crossed the divide that separates Blue and White in London, with Gustavo Poyet being one of the very few examples of such an instance.
