Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte doesn’t ‘want to take risks’ against Morecambe in FA Cup 3rd round tie
According to Tottenham’s official website, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has suggested that he doesn’t want to take the FA cup tie against Morecambe lightly.
Tottenham have enjoyed a good spell in the Premier League after the arrival of Antonio Conte. The Italian manager has started his major reform work at the North London club and has shaken things up to a great extent. However, the ex-Chelsea boss has emphasized that he needs more time to compete against top-tier clubs.
Tottenham performed poorly in the first-leg tie of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea. The home side secured a 2-0 victory over Conte’s men, and it’d be tough to turn the tide in the coming second leg. Spurs are trailing league-leaders Manchester City by 20 points, and securing the league title is undoubtedly out of our reach now. Therefore, the FA Cup provides the North London team a clear-cut chance to secure their first silverware since 2008.
Tottenham are set to face League One side, Morecambe, today. The third-tier team’s season has been disappointing; however, they sparked an inspired comeback against Doncaster in their last match.
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte suggested that any English team poses a significant threat, and without the right concentration, Spurs can fall prey to Morecambe. With all due respect to Doncaster, we are perhaps going to be a bigger challenge for the Shrimps.
“If you play a team in League One, it will always be a difficult game. If you know this before, and you are cautious about this, then you can make a good performance. If you don’t give the right consideration to your opponent, then you risk… We don’t want to take a risk.”
The former Inter Milan manager also revealed that Morecambe wouldn’t be an easy opponent as it would be a grand occasion for them- one where they would give it their all. However, Conte agreed that his players understood the threat.
“Morecambe will be ready, for sure. When you play this type of game against an important club, in an amazing stadium, with a fantastic atmosphere around you, you know it’s the game of your life.”
After a long trophy drought, the North London team is desperate to win a title. Tottenham last won the FA cup in 1991. However, Spurs must secure the small wins before getting to the grand stage.
