Transfer News: Barcelona have entered the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Adama Traore
Spanish news outlet Sport (h/t Football.London), Barcelona are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur target and Wolverhampton Wanderers winger, Adama Traore.
Adama Traore has become a key player for Wolves in the last few seasons. The 25-year-old impressed during the 2019/20 season when he bagged six goals and 12 assists in 54 appearances. But without any goal and assist in his last 20 matches, Traore’s influence in Wolves’ attack has been on the wane recently.
Traore has a history with FC Barcelona as the Spaniard came through the Catalan side’s famous La Masia academy. However, the 25-year-old couldn’t get enough game time and sealed an exit in 2015. He has since been involved in the Premier League and spent time at Aston Villa and Middlesbrough before moving to Wolves.
Tottenham have been linked with Traore for a while now. Spurs attempted to lure the Wolves man in the summer but fell short of the demanded price. But it seems like we have kept tabs on the 25-year-old star, whose pace and runs down the flank continues to be a dreadful combo for PL defenders to deal with.
Traore to Barca or Spurs?
However, it seems Tottenham are set to face added competition in their supposed pursuit. It is believed that FC Barcelona are eyeing a move to reunite with Traore as the Catalan giants continue to rebuild after a dreadful summer that saw them lose Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain.
Antonio Conte helped Victor Moses turn his career around at Chelsea by putting him in the wing-back role. It seems the Italian is planning a similar experiment with Traore. The Spain international’s speed and physical presence would certainly make him an able candidate to play as a wing-back.
The 25-year-old’s arrival would also create a competitive environment for Emerson Royal, who has been the only viable option in the right-back spot for the former Inter Milan manager. Japhet Tanganga can play there as well, but the youngster is perhaps a more suitable candidate to be a centre-back rather than an attacking wing-back.

Quality often comes at a cost, especially when you sign players with ample Premier League experience. Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici would be wise to back Conte by making a serious move for Traore if the ex-Chelsea and Juventus boss really does want the winger.
With added competition in our pursuit and Barca offering an emotional reunion at Camp Nou, we would have to be smart, calculated, and decisive with our interest. If the club does want to sign him, it wouldn’t be a good look losing out on him to another club.
