Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur could target Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur could look at Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma as a potential target.
The 25-year-old fits the profile of players that the club is currently looking for. He is currently out on international duty and will be returning to England around late January.
Bissouma is not desperate to leave Brighton anytime soon and could wait until next summer before deciding on his future. Aston Villa are very much interested in getting his signature but would have to Brighton’s asking price between £40million and £50million.
Apart from Tottenham, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are also identifying players with similar profiles to meet their midfield needs. However, Graham Potter is confident that his side can keep hold of the Malian despite the big boys showing interest.
Bissouma to Spurs?
Looking at how the midfielder has fared since moving from Lille, he would be an excellent addition to our midfield. Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele have failed to capitalise on their opportunities and could very well be on their last legs at the Lane.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been a midfield general for us since arriving from Southampton but, he has had a forgettable couple of performances in recent games. The lack of dependable alternatives has forced the Danish international to continue playing irrespective of fitness or form.
As such, we do need midfield additions to back Antonio Conte if the club has ambitions to succeed. The 25-year-old has an excellent ability to read the game and break down opposition plays through interceptions and tackles. At the same time, he can dribble through pressure with ease, a valuable trait in the modern game.
Unlike Villa, Spurs are yet to officially register their interest. However, the Mali international’s stance would provide the club with a boost by giving us ample time to decide on the matter.

If Conte approves of the Brighton star’s signing, Fabio Paratici must make sure that we beat off the competitors and land the midfielder’s services. After all, the Italian boss would need reinforcement in his squad to bring success to N-17. Whether Bissouma will be an integral part of that squad remains to be seen.
