Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte sends bleak message regarding January transfer dealings
Tottenham Hotspur fans would be concerned by the bleak message that Antonio Conte has sent regarding the club’s January transfer dealings. His side is yet to break the deadlock in the market despite the need for reinforcements getting highlighted over the last few matches.
The Italian coach has done well since taking over the managerial role at N17. There were some hiccups along the way, but much of it was down to the limitations within the squad. As such, the lack of movement this month has created a negative sentiment among the fanbase.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t Football.London), Conte has expressed that he does not know if the club would complete even one signing before the market closes down. The manager mentioned that he understands the difficulty in facilitating transfers in winter but has advised Spurs to pursue them to address their needs.
“I don’t know. I know that the transfer window in January is always very difficult and it is more simple when you start the season to buy important players. In January it is not easy, but at the same time we know very well that if there is the opportunity and also if it’s not the best opportunity, but we need to do something.”
Truer words could not have been spoken
It is alarming that Tottenham have not made any moves in the winter market despite the obvious need for it. The squad is not blessed with many options, which in itself is enough of a reason to make some additions to the squad.
That is without taking into consideration the lack of quality players, which has played a part in the recent slump we have gone through. With not many days left for the January transfer window to close, we hope that the North London club pay heed to their coach and make some signings soon.
There are several areas where we need reinforcements, with the major concern being the frontline. The lack of options was apparent when Dele Alli and Bryan Gil was forced to start as the attacking duo against Morecambe in the FA Cup. Naturally, we suffered as a result, and the 52-year-old boss had to bring in the big guns to turn the tides.

Right-wingback is another position that needs bolstering since Emerson Royal has not met the expectations at Tottenham. His attacking qualities are questionable, a major drawback given the key role wing-backs play in Conte’s system.
Tottenham are well in the mix to secure a UEFA Champions League spot for next season. The club can be their own worst enemy at times and could be throwing away a golden opportunity with the lack of initiative shown in this transfer window.
