Transfer News: Wolverhampton Wanderers reject Tottenham Hotspur transfer bid for Adama Traore
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Wolverhampton Wanderers have decided to reject a bid from Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Spanish winger Adama Traore in the January transfer window.
Tottenham had offered £15 million for Traore, whom Antonio Conte has plans to deploy in the right-wingback position. However, Wolves have rejected the attempt and hold firm in their £20million asking price for the player.
The 25-year-old has been a long term target for the North London club. With less than two weeks to go before the January transfer window shuts, it remains to be seen if Spurs will return with an improved offer for Traore.
Spurs meet Wolves’ valuation!
It is baffling how we are trying to “pressure” Bruno Lage’s side this late in the transfer window. Not to mention, it isn’t very reassuring to see how the club is pursuing their priority target this month. We are the ones who are desperate for reinforcements, and getting the deal over the line is in our best interests.
The Spaniard will only enter the final year of his current deal next summer, so the price tag set by Wolves is fair considering the current market situation. It is surprising why we are wasting time and not trying to work out a deal quickly.
One could argue how they are trying to do “good business”, but context is always important. Lage’s side have a good chance of qualifying for the European competitions, and selling their forward would only hamper their chances. That makes the valuation even more reasonable alongside other factors like factoring in a sale midway through the season.

Conte has clarified that the right-sided wingback slot needs bolstering this month. Fabio Paratici could have maybe prevented the slump the team underwent recently had he got the deal completed sooner. The lack of quality from Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty has prevented Conte’s favoured setup from reaching its full potential.
It remains to be seen if Paratici will finally give into Wolves’ demands or continue to play hardball. With time, we will know the outcome, but there is only one reasonable pathway for us to take at this moment.
