Nice target Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil for a loan move in January transfer window
According to the French publication L’Equipe (h/t Eurosport), Nice are planning to target Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil for a loan move in the January transfer window. The winger has not enjoyed much success at Spurs but he is still adapting to the Premier League after moving to N17 the previous summer.
The Ligue 1 side could make an official bid for Gil in the remaining days of this month. Since the winter transfer market will soon be nearing the deadline date, things could be difficult, as is the case with every move in the latter stages.
However, there is no expectation that Tottenham would be open to including an option to buy him permanently in the deal. That is if they approve of a loan in the first place for the rest of this season.
No thanks
The Spaniard joined us from Sevilla in a £21.6million cash plus exchange deal involving Erik Lamela last year. The youngster is yet to make a mark at the North London club, but it would unwise to already deem him dispensable in his first season in the English top-flight.
While a loan move does make sense, the timing of it could not be any worse, considering how thin our options are in the attacking areas. The 21-year-old is one of our only natural options on the flanks apart from Steven Bergwijn at this moment. The latter, however, has been used centrally by Conte recently to make up for the lack of depth in the number 9 area.
That indicates how the former Sevilla star could have greater importance in our team in the current scenario. Son Heung-min is currently out injured, which further highlights the need to keep the squad intact for the remainder of this campaign.
The Spanish forward played alongside Dele Alli up front during the 3-1 win against Morecambe in the FA Cup third round. While comparatively inexperienced, Gil is certainly an exciting prospect who can do a job for us when required. His exploits with Spain at the Olympics last year show that he is a well-respected player in La Roja‘s set-up as well.

The season is long, and the top-four position is still up for grabs. If Spurs are to qualify for the Champions League next term, we should be looking to strengthen, rather than weaken our squad in January.
Time will paint a clear picture about the club’s decision regarding this interest, with the transfer market entering the final phase before closing down. Gil could gain more minutes if he is loaned out elsewhere, but it wouldn’t make sense for us if it comes at the cost of depleting our already skim forward line.
