Speculation regarding Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli mounts following match day axe
According to the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder Dele Alli has seen transfer speculation over a transfer to Newcastle United mount after he was left out of his side’s 2-0 loss against Chelsea last night.
Spurs suffered an embarrassing loss against the Stamford Bridge side, making this their third defeat to the Blues in as many games in the same month. Tottenham were lacking in ideas and creativity to break down their opponent’s defence and were missing someone like Dele on the pitch to inspire them to a win.
With his latest snub from the side, it now seems that Spurs are looking to offload the player before the January transfer window closes. Premier League rivals Newcastle United are interested in securing Dele’s services.
Dele has only managed to feature in six of new Spurs manager Antonio Conte’s 15 games in charge. The England international is out of form and short of confidence at the moment. He has failed to live up to his usual high standards on the pitch of late.
Despite being one of Spurs’ brightest stars a couple of seasons ago, the player has seen his stock fall dramatically in recent times. Unfortunately, he has shown little to suggest that a turnaround in fortunes is on the cards.
It is no secret that Conte is seeking reinforcements this month, and the club may be willing to sacrifice Dele as they look to raise funds for an overhaul. Recent rumours have suggested that newly-rich Newcastle are keen on taking the player to St. James’ Park. This might have been confirmed by the midfielder’s absence from the squad that travelled to Stamford Bridge last night.
Dele’s poor run of form has seen him fall down the pecking order at both the club and the international level. His performances with us earned him the chance to showcase his talents with England’s national team, but Gareth Southgate does not appear to value the player’s presence highly anymore.
The 25-year-old may just be tempted to take up the offer from Newcastle, in a bid to gain more minutes and regain his mojo. With the FIFA World Cup coming up later this year, he will need to turn around his fortunes fast to make a return to the national side.

Conte’s system does not seem to have a place for the Englishman, and even if it did, Dele has not shown any signs to prove that he deserves to be included in the manager’s plans. The midfielder is in danger of throwing away his legacy at the club, despite being a fan favourite in his early years.
It is obvious to fans that Dele is out of favour at the club, and the best thing to do would be to cut our losses and recoup what we can for him. Still only 25, we can hope that starting a fresh life away from N17 could help our former teen prodigy get back to the dazzling form we all bore witness to.
