Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur open to listen to January offers for Alli, Lo Celso and Gil
According to the news outlets Goal and Marca (h/t ESPN), Tottenham Hotspur are ready to listen to offers for a trio of players in the January transfer window as part of their squad overhaul. They could potentially be the first departures under the Antonio Conte era in an attempt to weed out mediocrity.
Dele Alli, Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil have been deemed dispensable by Tottenham as they try to clear out underperforming stars. The former duo missed out on the matchday squad against Chelsea while the latter came on as a substitute in the game.
Alli has been subjected to interest from Newcastle United and it remains to be seen if he will complete a move to St James Park this month. Valencia, meanwhile, have enquired about the availability of taking Gil on a loan, whereas Nice and Real Sociedad are also interested in securing his services.
Right choice?
With not many days left in the winter transfer market, it would be tough to clear out the trio, let alone bring in any replacements. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Newcastle’s desperation will see them go all out to land Alli.
The Englishman has failed to build on the promise he had shown earlier in his career. He looks a pale shadow of his former self and it is high time that we look at life after him at the club.
Lo Celso, meanwhile, has suffered from injuries and is yet to show his best under Conte. There were high hopes when he was initially signed following his impressive showing at Real Betis. But we have not seen that quality consistently, and just how long the club is willing to be patient is the question.

20-year-old Gil’s case is completely different since he is still adapting to the new surroundings after joining us the previous summer from Sevilla. A loan could help him get into the groove as regular minutes are necessary to ensure his development does not stagnate.

As things stand, it would take a real effort from the management to not just sell three players but also bring in their replacements. It makes more sense for us to offload the players in the summer rather than do so now and leave ourselves short of options.
Time will tell what decision the club will take regarding their futures as the deadline date is just on the horizon.
