Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur could loan out Bryan Gil, Japhet Tanganga and Pape Matar Sarr in January.

Japhet Tanganga set for Tottenham Hotspur stay despite AC Milan transfer interest

According to Sky Sports, centre-back Japhet Tanganga will stay at Tottenham Hotspur this January despite interest from Italian giants AC Milan. The youngster has seen himself feature more prominent of late due to the absence of Eric Dier thanks to injury.

Antonio Conte has made it clear to the club that he wants Tanganga to stay for the rest of this season. He conveyed the message to the defender as well, which has essentially put an end to any interest from Milan.

Tottenham are currently focused on bolstering the other areas of the pitch and the centre-back position is not a priority for now. The lack of any potentially solid replacement in the market largely limits our ability to part ways with the 22-year-old.

Good decision?

Even if Dier and Cristian Romero will probably return to action sometime soon, it is good to keep the depth intact since we can never know the obstacles that we may face in the future. Injuries and suspensions are a part of the game and the current Covid situation also has the potential to play spoilsport.

The season is still long, plus the three at the back system used by Conte also forces us to have a healthy number of options available. However, it is interesting to note that the North London club would like to have a left-footed centre-back in the squad long-term.

Ben Davies is the one who occupies that left-sided role for now and it makes sense why we are looking at other targets. After all, Davies is not exactly playing in his preferred role, even if he has fared well since being entrusted the role by Conte.

It is still unknown whether that has anything to do with Tanganga and his future at N17 long term. But after applying the appropriate context, it would not have made sense if we parted ways with him by letting him join Milan.

Joe Rodon is far down the pecking order and should be the first one to go if we are looking to move out players. Even if the Italian boss has approved Tanganga’s stay, he has to raise his level moving forward. His high profile mistakes against Chelsea, for example, are areas where he can improve in order to have a long term future with us.
