Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur submit official bid for Juventus ace Rodrigo Bentancur

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have submitted an official bid for Juventus defensive midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur as the club looks to make their first signing in the winter transfer window.

Bentancur has been a midfield mainstay for Juventus for many years now, and if Spurs can pull off a move for the Uruguayan, they will be signing a talented player who could be well worth splashing your money on, given his impressive performances in Italy.

The Lilywhites have offered Juventus a deal worth around €19m, with an additional €6m coming in as add-ons for the player. After spending the entire month without signing a player, Spurs will hope that their offer is enough to let Juve let the midfielder go.

Juventus certainly look to expect Bentancur to leave, as they are simultaneously preparing a deal to sign Denis Zakaria from Borussia Monchengladbach as a replacement. This augurs well for Spurs in their efforts to make a signing before the end of the month.

Head coach Antonio Conte is desperate for new signings in January, calling out for players he can add to his side that can help the club finish the season strongly and provide a fresh challenge to other title contenders next campaign.

Spurs dip into January market

It seems like Conte may get his wish soon, with Spurs in talks with his former club for an agreement for Bentancur, which are expected to continue on Sunday. The Italian will hope that all goes well before Monday’s transfer deadline looming over them.

Conte may also get a surprise addition to his squad from Juventus, as it is claimed that Spurs are looking confident about tying up a loan deal for midfielder Dujan Kulusevski until the end of the season.

One of the biggest headaches the manager has faced this season is his side’s defensive instability, with the backline looking shaky at times and not up to facing some of the league’s best attackers.

Although the expectation is that we sign better defenders, Bentancur could be a novel solution to our rearguard problems, with the Uruguay international adept at shielding his defenders from waves of attack as a defensive midfielder.

After going almost the entire transfer window without any new signings, we could not be set to complete a double swoop from Juventus on the last day. Expectations will be high for any new incoming players as they set foot in N17, and Spurs will hope that the newcomers perform at their best to help the club finish the season strongly.

A mainstay in the Juventus and Uruguayan national team lineup at the age of just 24, Bentancur has a lot of footballing years still ahead of him. If he manages to complete a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Bentancur will become just the 2nd Uruguayan player to represent Spurs in the Premier League era after Gus Poyet.
