Tottenham Hotspur will sell Steven Bergwijn if Ajax meet asking price
According to the transfer journo Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur are still ready to sell Steven Bergwijn to Ajax Amsterdam if they can meet the valuation before the January deadline passes. It looked like he would stay past this month after playing the hero against Leicester City, but that seems not to be the case.
Romano has claimed that an agreement between both clubs can still be reached as the negotiations have not broken down. Talks over a potential transfer are still open, but Tottenham are asking to meet their asking price of €25million to get his services.
It is a bit surprising to see Spurs are open to selling the 24-year-old despite the lack of attacking options in the team. It remains to be seen if the Eredivisie side will meet the price tag or not as Monday’s deadline looms close on the horizon.

This update is a bit of a shock, to say the least since Antonio Conte himself has expressed that he counts on the services of the Dutchman. Even if we have signed Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus, who will slot on the right-wing, it does not mean that we can deem him dispensable.
After all, Bryan Gil is set to join Valencia which negates the added depth because of Kulusevski. The Dutch international can easily play on the left-hand side without any drop in performance. With Gil’s departure, Son Heung-Min is our only other option on the left-wing.
Moreover, Son is currently out injured, which gives us all the more reason to keep hold of the former PSV Eindhoven forward. Even if the former could return soon to the squad, it does not give us an excuse since there are no other backup options.

The lack of a second choice striker had already plagued us this season whenever Harry Kane had to be left out of the squad. For that reason, selling the Spurs winger would also result in a handicap which is the last thing that we need right now.
It would not make sense for us to shoot ourselves in the foot and go against Conte’s wishes since he backs the Dutch star. Plus, we are competing to qualify for the Champions League next term so, losing him would only hamper our chances in the process. So let’s wait and see how this situation pans out, but we are hopeful that he will not be sold.
